The seventh grade girls tennis Black Team advanced to the Delphic League finals on November 6, 2025. The team faced the eighth grade girls tennis Red Team, guaranteeing Harvard-Westlake a league championship regardless of the outcome. The Red Team won the match 6-0.
The middle school tennis coaches were strategic when putting together the teams. They could have put one team in League A of the Delphic League and the other team in League B, but they put both teams in League A. It paid off when both teams made it to finals.
Coach Julie Eliaser said the teams’ success came from their “team spirit, great sportsmanship and intense focus.”
However, the Black Team’s journey to the finals was not easy. There were some losses, including a 2-4 loss to Paul Revere. The Black team got to have a rematch against Paul Revere in the playoff semi-finals. Coach Gabi Bitton thought the highlight of the season for the team was the semi-final playoffs against Paul Revere.
She said, “The game was tied at 3-3 (after 3 singles and 3 doubles matches), and we had to count the games won and lost. We ended up winning by one game 35-34. It was a remarkable payback win.”
During the final playoff matches where every game counted, Audrey Yang ’31 and Katie Lee ’31 said they felt supported by their teammates who were cheering extra loudly for them and each game they won.
The tennis season included many highlights for the players. Eliana Artiga-Merchant ’31 said she enjoyed the team’s sense of community, while Zoey Vang ’31 said her favorite memories came from the rides to the matches. Yang said she felt supported by her teammates throughout the season. Lee said making new friends and developing her tennis skills were the most meaningful parts of her experience on the team.
