Students at Harvard-Westlake gathered at the middle school campus for an ambassador training dinner held on Monday, September 15. The yearly dinner aims to teach new student ambassadors to “be great representatives for Harvard-Westlake,” said event coordinator and Admissions Associate Director Julia Kraft. The dinner provides student ambassadors with the skills and guidance needed to tour prospective families, answer questions on student panels, and assist at school events.
The evening began with an introductory orientation held in the Saperstein theater, followed by a dinner featuring In-N-Out and Mr. Froste. In previous years, the program also included breakout rooms, where students would further hone in their skills. Soly Wain ’29 (A Co leader of the Student Ambassador program) reflected on this change.
“I really enjoyed breakout rooms last year, and I’d love to bring them back if possible,” Wain said.
The long-running event has had a lasting impact, as many current ambassadors were once inspired by the tours they received as students themselves. Dylan Kaw ’29 said,
“I was inspired by the person who originally gave me a tour. They made me feel welcome in this community, and I hope to share that feeling with others.”
Students also noted that they were looking forward to different aspects of the role that got highlighted during the training dinner. Gabriel Artiga-Merchant ’27 said,
“I’m very excited to begin giving tours. Through this opportunity, I hope to expand my impact on the community”.
