The Environmental Club held an event called “Vintage Locker” during break on May 16 to reduce fast fashion in the school community. Vintage Locker is a nonprofit organization founded by the leaders of the club, aiming to reduce the harmful environmental impacts of fast fashion.
“Fast fashion is basically when stores pump out lots of clothing in order to maximize on current trends and make a lot of money through cheap clothes, so our goal was to reduce the amount of new clothes being purchased,” Co-Leader of the Environmental Club Beckham Williams ’28 said.
Students donated clothes over the course of several weeks, and the club held a booth open for all students to purchase them.
“I think this is a very resourceful and unique idea as it allows students to help the environment,” Leah Kim ’28 said.
The booth gained lots of traction from students, and it was open throughout the school day.
“The event went really well and we ended up raising around $1270, which is more than we expected,” Williams said. “I think it had a really positive student impact and next time hopefully students will be more encouraged to donate and get involved with it.”
