The 9th grade math club held its first meeting of the year on Monday, September 19, where students gathered to learn about the schedule of the upcoming competition season and start working on math fundamentals. The club, which competes in various contests such as Mathcounts, aims to help students strengthen their problem-solving skills and work together as a team. During the meeting, members got an overview of what to expect this year and began exploring key concepts like mass points to prepare for competitions ahead.
Throughout the year, the club plans to participate in many competitions and work on creative math puzzles. Members hope the club will help them grow their skills and foster a deeper appreciation for problem solving.
Before the math club kicked off its first meeting of the year, students set goals for what they hoped to achieve.
“I would like to learn tips and tricks on how to solve logic problems and hard math problems quickly and easily,” Evan Ho ’29 said
Under the guidance of math teacher Karen Ge, the 9th Grade math club aims to make math both engaging and collaborative.
“The goal of the club is to do fun math and do whatever the students want,” Ge said.
In addition to preparing for competitions, the club hopes to create a space where students can explore math beyond the classroom and connect through shared problem-solving. Members said they are excited to challenge themselves, develop new strategies, and have fun along the way.
