Spirit week was for students to show their school spirit around the middle school campus leading up to Harvard Westlake Homecoming. Spirit week was organized by the 8th and 9th grade senators meant to get people excited for HW HOCO. During the week of September 29 they announced the fun days they are going to have including jersey day, anything but a backpack day, twin day, and the last day was to wear HW gear for the pep rally.
“We do spirit week to increase school pride, unite the community, and to have fun,” said ninth Grade Senator Jordan Paya ’29.
During Spirit week students enjoyed going around during their WIN times seeing all the fun and crazy things people were wearing and bringing. The students felt like they were bonding when they participated
“I think it was a great event that embraces all of HW together” said Jacob Holly ‘29.
The 8th and 9th grade senators worked together to meticulously plan all the days.
“We [The student council] thought about what students wanted, and what would that increase the student participation” said Trevor Kim ‘29, a 9th grade senator.
After the senators chose what each day was they had to get feedback from Ms. Tooke ’04, The Middle School Director of Student Affairs, and present at assembly. During assembly the student council got many cheers with students excited for the week. They especially got a lot of anything but a backpack day.
“The planning behind spirit week was challenging but it was rewarding,” said Paya.
