Ninth graders gathered in the Saperstein Theater on May 21, 2025, for the ninth-grade prefect elections, an event dedicated to selecting four student leaders who will represent the Class of 2028 in their first year at the Upper School. The elected prefects will serve as the bridge between the student body and administration, plan class events and help enhance daily student life.
Each candidate presented a speech outlining their goals, values and vision for the upcoming school year. The presentations showcased a diverse range of personalities and ideas, all rooted in a shared passion for community leadership. Grace Eisner ’28, one of this year’s candidates, reflected on her experience speaking in front of her peers.
“I knew speaking in front of my class would be difficult, but I was extremely grateful for how kind everyone was after I spoke,” Eisner said. “I was nervous going into it, but hearing people cheer and come up to me afterward with encouraging words made me feel so supported.”
The election process offered students a platform to not only voice their goals but also support one another and build confidence. Candidates shared plans ranging from more spirit days and social events to stronger communication between students and faculty.
“I was so excited to share my ideas with the class, and I will definitely work to make them a reality even if I’m not a prefect,” Eisner said. “I loved the process of prefect elections and can’t wait to apply again next year!”
Following the speeches, students cast their votes via an online survey based on who they believed was the best fit candidate. The voting process allowed every student to have a voice in shaping their leadership for the upcoming year. Whether elected or not, each candidate contributed to a meaningful and inspiring process that highlighted the enthusiasm, creativity and leadership potential all of the candidates had.
