Ninth graders arrived at the Middle School gym on March 7 for the ninth grade dance held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The event, open exclusively to freshmen, gave students the chance to celebrate their final year at the middle school alongside classmates and friends. The gym was transformed into a festive space with lighting, music and decorations tailored to the chosen theme: A Night in New York.
Organized by the Ninth Grade Dance Committee—a group of student volunteers—the evening featured music, refreshments and a variety of social spaces designed to encourage connection and celebration.
“The Dance Committee spent several weeks planning during break and free time, working in smaller subcommittees,” committee member Diya Desai ’28 said. “We made sure to involve the student body in the decision-making process by sending out Google Forms and polling students on themes and other activity ideas.”
From decorations to the playlist, the night was curated with student preferences in mind. A DJ played music throughout the evening, mixing student-selected tracks with popular favorites. In addition to the dance floor, designated photo areas and refreshment tables gave students more ways to enjoy the evening with friends.
“It was a really memorable night for me,” Desai said. “I hope that students had a great time with their friends and made lasting memories. I wanted it to be a fun, exciting night that lived up to what students had been looking forward to.”
