The Black Leadership and Culture Club created the BLACC Out as a vibrant event to celebrate Black History Month at Harvard-Westlake School. The dance celebrated Black culture and music, offering a fun way for the community to come together and recognize these important contributions.
As part of the effort to make the event even more impactful, the organizers wanted to expand the reach beyond just HW students.
“We wanted to have it open to students from across LA schools so that students would have the opportunity to connect across schools and form bonds that would lead to future programming,” Ninth Grade Dean Jon Carroll said.
To create a more intimate atmosphere and encourage socializing, the venue was changed this year.
“The event was held in the upper school Chalmers this year instead of Hamilton Gymnasium so that the environment would be a little more intimate and promote more dancing and socializing,” Carroll said.
This year, Alexander Hudlin was the DJ, and Carroll said he really brought the energy to the event.
“We were very excited to have Hudlin as this year’s DJ,” Carroll said..“He did a great job setting up the vibes for the evening.”
The BLACC Out held on February 18 concluded Black History Month. Approximately 125 Students from all over LA came together to celebrate Black culture, listen to music, and make new connections. With a DJ and a great venue, everyone had a chance to enjoy the night and make lasting memories.
