Hit or Miss completed its underdog run on May 7, defeating Enchanted HW to win the dodgeball championship and secure its name on the school plaque. After winning two games in the final, the team capped off the tournament in front of a loud crowd packed around the court.
The championship opened with a tense first game between Hit or Miss and Enchanted HW that came down to a final 1v1. With both teams surrounding the court and students crowding the ledge above, Hit or Miss secured the final out to take the opening game before later winning a second game to clinch the title.
Hit or Miss player Lucas Kreymer ’29 said the group’s confidence helped carry the team throughout the tournament, especially as they continued advancing despite outside doubt.
“We came in here, we started this tournament, we were the underdogs, but we really came in and handled business here,” Kreymer said after the win. “I’m really proud of our team.”
Hit or Miss team captain Brady George ’29, also credited the team’s chemistry and ability to stay united throughout the tournament.
“Nobody believed in us, but thanks to God that we were able to get it done,” George said. “We’re not always the greatest athletes, but every single time we come together, we’ve won every single game.”
Hit or Miss player Baylor Kelley ’29 said the team’s connection with one another ultimately separated them from other teams in the tournament.
“I think the only way we were able to win this tournament is coming together as a team and really loving each other as brothers,” Kelley said. “That’s one of the most important parts of a team.”
As the celebration continued after the final game, Hit or Miss self-described coach Oliver Cahan ’29 reflected on what the championship meant for the team’s legacy at the school.
“We started out and everyone was making fun of us,” Cahan said. “But now, with our name here, they’re never gonna forget us.”
