Students danced and laughed at BLACC’s Annual BLACC OUT Dance, a 90s-themed celebration that brought together Black students from schools across Los Angeles.
The dance, organized by BLACC, welcomed students in grades 9-12 from various schools to connect, celebrate, and have fun together as we enter Black History Month.
Sydney Hardnett ’29 said, ” It was also really fun when everyone was singing together, and there was a real sense of community and belonging when we were all together.”
The event featured music, dancing, and lots of opportunities to socialize. Many students said it felt different from regular school dances, giving them a chance to celebrate culture and meet people outside their own schools.
“I think events like the BLACC Out dance are important for bringing the community together, especially because people of African descent are a small minority on both campuses, and fun events like the dance are a way to help club members come together and celebrate their culture, have a good time, and have their heritage celebrated, ” said Francesco Lewis ’29.
The BLACC Out Dance highlighted the importance of creating spaces where students can celebrate culture, build connections, and feel a strong sense of belonging. As Black History Month begins, events like this remind the community of the value of unity, representation, and shared celebration.
