The Middle School Choral ensembles performed their concert, Red Green and Golden, on December 18 in the Saperstein Theater.
The ensembles include Treble Chorus, Tenor Chorus, Vocal Ensemble, Wolverine Singers, and Madrigals, which are all made up of students with varying experiences and skill levels in choir. They have rehearsed together on the pieces since the beginning of the school year in August, working meticulously to prepare an enjoyable performance and showcase their abilities. Their diverse arrangement of music ranged from traditional Christmas folk songs such as “Carol of the Bells” to pop songs like “Golden” from the movie KPop Demon Hunters.
Paul Keilbach, Director of Choir at the Middle School, expressed his pride in how the choirs integrated to perform different pieces, especially in the finale, “Hallelujah.”
“Everyone has to be very focused and everyone has to know their part well so that they can sing the correct music when we put all the parts together with the orchestra.” Keilbach said. “The reason I like it so much is because we get to bring together members from different parts of our school community.”
Members of the Middle School Symphony joined the choirs, as well as faculty, to put together a grand finale, which was regarded as the highlight of the show, by both Keilbach and Caroline Lin ’29, a selected member of the Middle School Symphony.
“Hallelujah was my favorite piece in the show because it was a very fun experience for me. I got to perform with voices, and in symphony, I usually don’t get to.” Lin said.
The winter choral concert was a celebration and accumulation of the students’ hard work and commitment, as well as their progress in the first few months of school.
