Alex Uruchurtu, the CPO of the personal care company Dr. Squatch visited MS Venture during break to talk about his role as the Chief Product and Innovation officer, on April 16,
“I’ve personally used Doctor Squatch products for a while, and many of my friends do too, so I was especially excited when he agreed to speak,” Miller Flores ’28 said. Flores linked Uruchurtu with MS Venture through a connection between a law firm that represents both his mother’s company and Dr. Squatch. “It was Doctor Squatch’s clever and engaging marketing campaign that first got most of us to try the products, but it’s the quality that keeps us coming back. I’ve always been curious about what goes into their soaps, and as the Chief Product Officer, Alex gave us great insight into their production process.”
Dr. Squatch is a company primarily known for bar soaps, made with natural ingredients, that are marketed towards men with unique scents and humorous marketing. They produce a range of products, from bar soap, to toothpaste, to deodorant. It was founded in 2013 and is currently based in Los Angeles.
“I thought it was really cool because I’ve seen those commercials a lot, and I wanted to know how it was made. Because the whole thing was about having like natural soap, but specifically tailored toward men,” Gabriel de Castro ’28 said “I thought that was really interesting because I find that whenever I go to the store, it’s like I buy soap, and it’s like ‘for women’… so I wondered why everything was tailored to women. So it was interesting to see soaps tailored for men.”
MS Venture Club’s mission is “to educate and appeal to the interest of its club members who are passionate about business and entrepreneurship,” said Hudson Shen ’28, a leader of the club.
Throughout the 2024-2025 school year, MS Venture has hosted multiple speaker events and organized fundraisers for different organizations, such as selling candy grams to benefit the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital.
To conclude the event, Uruchurtu brought 30 sample soaps for all attendees to take. Multiple attendees expressed their excitement and gratitude for the samples, stating that they greatly appreciated them, and that they thoroughly enjoyed the event.
