A Harvard-Westlake robotics team, 62A – known as the Wolverines – qualified for the VEX Robotics World Championship after placing second at the California State High School Championship on March 16.
Team 62A, made up of Grayden Lichtman ‘28, Morgan Litt ‘28, Jacob Barr ‘28 and Dylan Byrnes ‘28, is the only VEX Robotics team from the school’s middle school campus to advance to the national tournament, held in Dallas, Texas, on May 6 – 14.
“We got really excited when we qualified,” Litt said. “There were about 100 teams and only about 12 qualification spots.”
Litt ‘ is no stranger to the spotlight in the robotics world. He was part of the VEX Robotics team that won last year’s VEX Robotics World Championship in the middle school division, along with Barr and Lichtman . This year, however, Team 62A was bumped up to the high school division — a more competitive bracket than the year before.
“We had low expectations for [qualifying],” Litt said. As a team of all ninth graders, 62A managed to secure their place at worlds by defeating the No. 2 seed in the state championship, an outstanding feat.
The VEX Robotics World Championship will take place May 6–14 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas. The Wolverines have a few weeks left to prepare before they take the stage.
