Varsity Profiles

Daniela Quintero-Varsity Track

Why and why did you start running track?

I started running when I was eight years old because I was a midfielder in soccer and realized that soccer involved a lot of running.

What is your favorite moment of this season?

Although it may seem simple, going to the river for a run with my teammates after a long day at school has been some of the most valued moments. Running is a great outlet from school-work, a way to relieve any stress and spend time with friends.

What is your favorite part of running Varsity track?

My favorite part of running on Varsity are the friendships I make with the upperclassmen and how much closer you get with your own class. Doing what you enjoy most with the people that you share a common passion with makes the sport all the more special and exciting.

How often do you practice?

Depending on the week and when I have club soccer practice, I practice five to six times a week.

How do you balance school and track?

I often try to finish bigger assignments or projects over the weekend, so I don’t have to worry about them during a busy school week. I also try to get at least half of my homework done before practice starts.

How do you prepare for a big meet?

In preparation for a big meet, I eat a carb and protein loaded dinner, drink lots of water and stretch before going to bed. Doing the smaller things like refueling and recharging the body are some of the only things you have control over as you get close to a big race, but they are just as important.

If you could play another Varsity sport what would it be? Chose three

I played golf and tennis for a couple of years, so maybe I would give them another shot. Otherwise, basketball sounds fun!

Do you have any advice for any future varsity players?

Mental toughness and self belief are key components to competing at a high level. Success starts with the right mentality because if you believe in yourself, not only does this boost confidence but generally fuels the desire to do well.

Avi Carson-Varsity Tennis

Why and when did you start playing your tennis?

I started playing tennis when I was two years old, but started playing competitively when I was seven. Tennis is something that my dad introduced to me, and I enjoyed it from a very young age.

What is your favorite moment of this season?

My favorite moments of the season were my first high school win ever against University in a close match with everyone watching, and the team winning All Americans in walk-off fashion.

What is your favorite part of playing Varsity tennis?

The level of tennis that I get to play both in matches and practice, as well as the fun that we have as a team.

How often do you practice?

We practice as a team Monday through Thursday, but I practice individually on the days we don’t have team practice.

How do you balance school and tennis?

Good time management and not procrastinate otherwise I won’t get my work done.

How do you prepare for a big match?

Listen to music and relax and get a good warm up beforehand.

If you could play another Varsity sport what would it be? Chose three

Football, soccer or golf.

Do you any advice for any future varsity players?

Work hard, have fun and enjoy the experience of being on the team.
