Smorgasburg Review

Every Sunday in Downtown LA Smorgasburg is held. Smorgasburg is the largest and newest open food market in Los Angeles. The market is hidden in a newly remodeled area known as ROW DTLA. When you first walk in, you are greeted by a variety of aromas coming from over 65 booths. Each booth offers something new to taste ranging from churros to pulled pork sandwiches. This wide arrangement of choices makes it easy for everyone to find something to eat. Although I did not get the chance to try everything Smorgasburg offered, I definitely had enough to eat.

The winning taste of the day came from Katsu Sando’s Mechi Australian Wagyu Beef Patty sandwich. Even though it had a higher price than a burger normally would, the high quality of the beef presented itself to be worth it. The freshly baked honey milk breads complemented the burger itself nicely as well.

Other booths offered a large selection of dessert. The most popular booth that day by far was Yellow Business. This booth offered a scoop of ice cream decorated colorfully with candy, but the star of the show was the bubble waffle. Many different flavors including unicorn and chocolate were appealing, but the most popular flavor was charcoal by far It had a scoop of vanilla ice cream with black sprinkles to match a charcoal bubble waffle, giving it its black color. The dessert was accented with raspberries and blackberries to give it a fresh feeling.

The one downside to this event is the need to wait in lines. The popularity of Smorgasburg attracts Los Angeles residents, and lots of people means lots of lines. Every booth had at least a 10 to 15 minute wait to order, and more time for them to prepare the food. Despite the long lines, I think the food offered is worth it. If the food is not appealing to you, it still makes for great photos!
