Bookstore manager Anthony Robinson married his fiancée, Shayna Nadow, on July 19. The couple met on Ocean Boulevard, Miami on Memorial Day weekend 2014 through mutual friends.
“She gave me a nice firm handshake, looked me right in my eyes and told me her name. I was like, ‘she’s the one’, I just felt something,” Robinson said.
The couple was planning on getting married around their one year anniversary, Oct 18 of last year. They said they did not get the chance to do it, as they were busy and agreed to do it this summer. Nadow wanted a small wedding, while Robinson wanted a larger one. The wedding ended up being a small, casual ceremony.
“It was her day, so she got to choose whatever she wanted,” Robinson said.
Together, the couple decided not to spend a lot of money on a wedding because they wanted to buy a house. They went to the courthouse to get a certificate, found a chapel and got married.
To end the wedding day, the couple ate lobster tails, shrimp, and filet mignon at Ruth’s Chris, the restaurant where Robinson proposed on Oct 18, 2014.
Robinson proposed during a candlelit dinner. Beforehand, Robinson informed the waiter of the proposal, and the waiter helped to hide the ring in the dessert platter. Once the platter was delivered, Robinson got on one knee and the restaurant erupted in applause as Nadow said yes.
Tina Cleveland, bookstore manager and colleague to Robinson expressed her feelings about Robinson being married.
“As long as I’ve known Mr. Robinson, he’s shared with me that he wanted a family. Family dynamics were very important to him and now he has his own family.” Tina Cleveland said.
For Robinson, the difference of being married is the level and amount of commitment.
“When you’re not married, you’re not really committed. So when you are married, you and your wife create a bond, an everlasting bond, and it’s also a lifetime commitment. You and your wife are creating that bond forever.” Robinson said.
