Students sketched chalk drawings and messages on the Munger Library stairs, an event hosted by Mental Health Awareness Club, on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025. Throughout the clubs and activities break, the stairs became adorned with a mix of words of encouragement and illustrations.
“The purpose of the event was to boost student morale around campus and brighten the school,” said senator Diya Desai ’28.
Two months ago, Desai began working alongside the Mental Health Awareness Club (MHAC) leaders to brainstorm an idea to relieve students of stress. Once the leaders settled on an idea, Desai and the other leaders, Mikaela Brabbee ’28, Stella Bae ’28, and Sloane Butler ’28, made bulletin announcements and digital posters. Desai communicated with Middle School Director of Student Affairs Sarah Tooke ’04, to purchase the chalk and necessary supplies.
“I’m really happy with it,” Desai said. “ I think it was great for the student body to come together and put a lot of effort into making the school beautiful.” Words such as “Step in someone’s shoes” and “Be kind” decorated the stairs for the rest of the day.
MHAC has hosted fun activities to improve the mental health of the student body.
“We hope to bring puppies to school again sometime this year, and hopefully we can decorate the stairs with chalk again,” Brabbee said. “We also hold very fun and informative club meetings on Fridays.”
