HW wins against Beverly Hills

Harvard-Westlake faced off against Beverly Hills High School in a league match on Dec. 21, 2018, winning 58 to 53. It was a close game from beginning to end. The leading scorer was Mason Hooks ‘20 with 29 points. The fantastic point guard Cameron Thrower ‘22, the only freshman on the Varsity Basketball team, also played a stellar game. He continues to impress all the fans and staff with his skill.

Despite his early success, Thrower has devoted his season to learning from the older and more experienced guys on the team. “As a ninth grader on varsity,” Thrower says, “I understood over the season that this year is a year of learning and that it is not my year because I have upperclassmen like Johnny, Spencer, and Mason that are playing in front of me, and they are the integral pieces of this team winning.” He looks at this season as more of a learning experience, and a time to thrive and grow, rather than to shine. His great defense and phenomenal skills at point guard separate himself from other players at his position.

Following a win against Capital Christian on Dec. 29, 2018 in the Torrey Pines tournament, as of Jan. 3, 2019, the Harvard-Westlake team was 11-4. In the tournament, Harvard-Westlake won two out of the four games they played. Harvard-Westlake next plays against Notre Dame on Friday Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. at home. They look to continue their great playing in their upcoming games.
