Christina Wagner-Wright has begun work as a new librarian at the Middle School. Although this is her first year on this campus, she has worked in many libraries before.
For example, Wagner-Wright has also been a librarian in Arizona and Hawaii. According to Wagner-Wright, moving from Hawaii to the desert was a big change because of the sudden lack of water and increased heat.
“It’s crazy hot, and it has been getting hotter and hotter. Even the people there will tell you it’s getting hotter and hotter. This summer I had a thermometer, not in direct sunlight, but not in shade, and it was 140°,” Wagner-Wright said.
Even as a child, Wagner-Wright was constantly on the move. She was born in the U.S. but then lived in the Philippines from age four to 20. Before becoming a librarian, Wagner-Wright volunteered in schools and medical clinics in the Philippines. She also has an academic background of studying history, which she said she enjoys because it covers such a wide range of topics. However, she still chose to become a librarian.
“It’s been really great working with her because she comes with experience as a school librarian and has a lot of great ideas,” Head Librarian Susan Kallok said.
In her spare time, Wagner-Wright enjoys reading science fiction and fantasy books, as well as science and art. Wagner-Wright also takes pleasure in traveling around the world and riding motorcycles. She is currently trying to learn how to drive one herself.
Overall, Wagner-Wright said she finds the Middle School a very unique place and is enjoying her time here so far.
“To be a part of helping students learn how to be the best and be able to give back and support their communities and excel in their communities as they continue to go out is really a nice opportunity,” Wagner-Wright said.
