On March 3rd the boys and girls JV and Varsity Swim teams beat Louisville, Notre Dame, and Crespi, in their second swim meet of the year.
After months of training, the team got off to a great start this season with swimmers having goals in mind and achieving them at this swim meet.
“I wanted to achieve a decent time on the 50 yard freestyle and help the team in relays.” JV Swimmer Peter Gao ’29 said. “I was able to achieve them.”
Varsity Swimmer El Hong ’29 shared her goals.
“I wanted to win against Notre Dame and I accomplished this by warming up and racing my hardest even when I was tired.” Hong said.
Jacob Caleb Paita ’29, a swimmer on the boys Varsity team, said he faced some challenges.
“The most challenging race was the 400 free relay. I was already tired from the 100 breaststroke, which was four events before the relay and I was the anchor for the relay.” Paita said.”It’s definitely a new experience for me, especially since I’m a club swimmer where we do 6 events and every event has over 5 heats.”
Despite the challenges, swimmers also celebrated great performances. Diane Kang ’27, a JV swimmer shared her experience at the meet.
“My favorite moment was getting 3rd in my 100 free, especially since I had never swam it before.” Kang said. “It was a lot of fun but also nerve wrecking because I wanted to swim my best and get PB for my individual events”
After a strong start to the season, the swim team hopes to continue their success. The next competition will be the Mt. SAC Invitational at Mt. San Antonio College on April 10th and 11th. The next home meet at HW will be on April 13th against Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy and Loyola at the upper school.
