The Middle School boys soccer black team hosted their first match of the season on Dec. 16 The team faced Paul Revere at home and achieved a win of 8-1.
Middle School boys soccer Coach Ronaldo Lomeli led a quick team huddle and discussed the plays to use in the real game before the whistle blew.
The team opened the game strongly, with Brooks Resnikoff ’30 scoring a power shot into the top left corner, marking the first goal. Andrew Wang ’30, Zach Joyce ’30, Scott Novack ’30, Emeka Emenike ’30 and Seth Yadidi ’30 all scored a goal each, with Resnikoff scoring another goal.
The fact that so many different people had an opportunity to score really displays the teamwork and focus of the black team, according to Lomeli.
“I’m proud of my boys for staying so focused the whole game and scoring many goals, but this was only the start,” Lomeli said. “We need to keep pushing forward and keep our heads up and sharp.”
Mid game, center back Wang pushed forward and scored a volley, solidifying the team’s lead.
“I’m proud of how consistent I played, and how I didn’t lose the ball a lot,” Wang said. “I learned that practice really does make perfect.”
Striker Resnikoff blew past defenders and shot a trivela into the net, ending the game.
“It felt great to play as a team and I was so glad to see all my teammates getting playing time,” Resnikoff said. “I had a good time playing together with my team and getting that win.”
The team’s defense and goalie proved to be exceptional, not leaving a single breath for Paul Revere’s strikers to score. The black team’s constant pressure and discipline is what led them to victory.
