It was a sunny day, and the boys’ JV soccer team was ready to face Bishop Alemany. The JV soccer team played Alemany away in a defensive battle that ended 1-0 on Wednesday, January 7th.
The game started slowly, with both teams trying to hold possession. The defense of Eren Aksoy ’29, Owen Kim ’29, and Luc Thomas ’29 held it down, getting multiple stops and clearing the ball.
“Our defense was amazing, and nothing could get past us, and that helped set up multiple chances for our offense,” Kim said.
The game felt like it could tip one way at any moment with Thomas and Hugo Linn ’29 commanding the midfield, generating the little bit of spark that the Wolverines needed the whole game.
The whole game the ball moved from side to side, never being on the same side for a while. A counter-attack was due to happen, but the question was just about when it was going to happen. All of a sudden, late in the game, Linn made a run with the ball. He dribbled two defenders and chipped the goalkeeper to put the Wolverines up 1-0. His teammates all ran to celebrate with him, and it was a special moment.
At the end of the game the Wolverines parked the bus and made sure that Alemany didn’t score. The final score was 1-0.
“It was such a surreal moment to be able to be with all of my friends and celebrate with them after my goal,” Linn said. “It was a moment I will never forget.”
