The JV track and field team had a strong showing at their March 3 meet, putting together several impressive performances and team wins.
Overall, the Wolverines had a successful day across multiple events. According to Head Coach Jonas Koolsbergen, the team performed well throughout the meet and showed strong early-season progress.
“We did very well, it was a good day of track & field,” Koolsbergen said.
Several JV athletes delivered standout performances during the meet. Jackson Sunwoo ran an impressive 11:54.99 in the boys 3200 meters, while Graham Ross had a strong showing in the throwing events with a mark of 29’6” in shot put and 88’9” in discus.
On the girls side, Alexa Ludwick had an excellent day in the sprint events, running 14.00 seconds in the 100 meters and 29.41 seconds in the 200 meters. Roxi Azarbal also stood out in distance, running 6:24.00 in the 1600 meters.
In the field events, Jessica Lee jumped 14’4 ¾” in the long jump, and Naomi Rush posted a strong mark of 27’11” in the triple jump.
Many athletes across the team also set personal records during the meet, which Koolsbergen said was a major highlight of the day.
“Lots had personal records, that list above is a good place to start,” Koolsbergen said.
Koolsbergen noted that some of the team’s strongest performances came in distance running and girls sprinting and jumping events.
“I would say our best work was Boys 3200, Girls Sprint and Girls Triple Jump,” Koolsbergen said.
Despite the strong results, the team continues to focus on improving and developing younger athletes. Because many JV athletes are new to track and field, learning the structure of meets and the details of each event is an important part of the season.
“JV always has so many athletes completely new to Track & Field,” Koolsbergen said. “There is a big learning curve just how meets are structured and how they work.”
With several strong performances and personal records already this season, the JV team is off to a promising start as they continue building momentum for the rest of the year.
