Lil Dicky Shows his Support for Earth Day

Lil Dicky released his new single “Earth” April 19, three days prior to Earth Day, a year after his last song “Freaky Friday” was released. He featured 30 guest vocalists to play roles in his video, which has given Dicky an upper-hand on other concurrently released songs. Including many singers of different genres, such as Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus gives this song a much larger target. “Earth” is informative but has foul language, which makes it seem like more of a parody of how our earth should be.

Being a big fan of Lil Dicky, I am drawn to love this song. The music video is absolutely incredible; the amount of time and effort put into this song is clearly shown by the detailed animations. In his video, Lil Dicky adds, “If we don’t get our act together now and change a lot about our fundamental behavior, Earth will become unlivable alarmingly soon.”

Dicky’s message correlates to Leonardo DiCaprio’s charity, called One Earth. DiCaprio is also featured in “Earth” and shares his concerns for the Earth. The song has accumulated over 80 million views since the release on YouTube alone. All proceeds from the track will be donated to various environmental charities.

While listening to the song, you can see how the chorus is simple but effective, “We love the Earth / It is our planet / We love the Earth / It is our home.” When he mentioned how short a time we have to save our planet, I tend to ask myself the question “Is that true?” so it’s certainly getting its message across. Overall, Lil Dicky’s new single “Earth” is quite catchy and an unforgettable and praiseworthy video while packaging a message.
