Amada Rodriguez ’29, A freshman on varsity soccer, has an extremely impressive soccer upbringing. At just 2 years old, Rodriguez started playing soccer, and was put into lessons. From there she joined a club called Revo, and trained there for about a year.
Rodriguez’s coach recommended her to another club, where she trained for 7 years. She then went on to play as a discovery player for a club called The Slammers. Eventually she had to pick between the two clubs, and chose The Slammers.
Throughout the past 3 years Rodriguez has gotten tons of opportunities to play for the US National team, and even Mexico. She’s traveled far to play soccer, out of state, and even Europe and Spain.
“It’s a great experience to be on varsity because I get to be closer with other grades and get to play with some really skilled players. everyone is really nice and welcoming, i’m treated like a sibling” Rodriguez said.
When asked if she felt held to a high standard, or lots of pressure when playing with older girls, Rodrigeuz said “Not really because I’ve played with older girls since I was young, so it’s really normal for me now.”
And when asked what about soccer keeps her going, she replied,
“It makes me feel very energized, it’s always exciting to play and I always feel hyped to go out there to score or defend whenever I’m needed. I love to try new positions.”
With all the experience Rodriguez already has, it’s clear she’s a really important part of the team. She brings a lot of energy every time she plays, and whether she’s scoring, defending, or trying a new position, she always gives it her all. As just a freshman, she already fits right in on varsity, and it’s exciting to see what she’ll keep doing in the next few years.
