Twenty five students will perform in the first middle school One-Act Play Festival. There will be 12 one-act plays accompanied by two monologues. The festival will take place after school on Jan. 19.
The festival is an opportunity for students to participate in a school theater performance other than the play or musical. Students were asked to participate via email and were given an opportunity to audition.
“We hope that this will become an annual event so that students that want a performance outlet without too much after school rehearsal can have the opportunity to perform in the Saperstein Theater,” play director Kate Benton said.
Ten faculty members from different departments will be directing the one-act plays in the festival. Rehearsals take place during break, accommodating students’ extracurriculars.
Performers find the one-act play festival to be a fun experience for those who enjoy acting.
“I think it’s a really cool opportunity that they are starting at Harvard-Westlake because it gives everyone an opportunity to do theater and for people who enjoy acting,” student festival actor Maddie Boudov ’21 said.
