Classical Music Club performs in lobby

    by Jonathan Chong ’19
15 members of the Classical Music Club joined together before the Winter Instrumental Concert on Dec. 4. The club performed the whole book of holiday songs in the Bing Lobby as guests arrived to watch the show.
The club practiced for the performance for around three months, starting in October when the club formed. Although they began at the beginning of the year, they only had three or four 20-minute rehearsals. Despite the shortage of time to practice, many members said that they felt the performance went well.
“I think people enjoyed the performance much more than we expected them to. We hadn’t really expected too many people to listen, but when we started playing, almost everyone waiting in the auditorium lobby gathered around to listen, and they stayed until close to 10 minutes before the start of the concert,” club member Sarah Moon ’19 said.
Ben Beckman ’19, Sarah Moon ’19, along with faculty sponsor performing arts chair Emily Reola, started the club at the beginning of the year. Beckman started the club because of a desire to find other people in the school who shared the same love as him and to play music for small groups of people.
“Since I was born, really, I have been listening to classical music. Essentially, it’s all I listen to. I don’t know rock or pop or jazz or hip hop. I always listen to classical music. I wanted to see if there was anyone else in the school that was as fond of classical music as I was.” Beckman said.
The audience, along with the club members, also felt that the performance went well.
“I enjoyed the performance. I could see the hard work that they put in because it sounded really good,” Josh Lee ’19 said.
