Upside Down Coffee Review

Upside Down Coffee is a nonprofit donation-based coffee shop and community space run by Jews for Jesus in Westwood. A beautiful, open space with ample seating for students or other people looking to sit down and complete work as well as indoor and outdoor seating designed for groups of people to chat and sip delicious coffees and teas together.

Although the shop does have a Christian and Jewish religious affiliation, which is reflected in the artwork on the walls, the specialty L’Chaim latte and the available educational pamphlets, there is no imposition of religious beliefs on visitors and customers include people of all faiths and backgrounds.

At Upside Down Coffee, customers can set their own donation amount, essentially the price they want to pay for their order, but the quality of the drinks made is never sacrificed. From matcha lattes to cold brews to cappuccinos, the menu covers all of the coffee shop staples and more.

Beyond the basics, the coffee shop serves specialty latte flavors like L’Chaim featuring grape syrup and Tiramisu, which tastes just like the dessert. With a variety of different syrups, roasts of coffee such as Ethiopian and Colombian, dairy and non-dairy milks and assortments of teas, Upside Down Coffee is an affordable one-stop shop. Its laid-back, casual vibe crafted by indie music and beautiful artwork makes it a place where visitors can feel comfortable sitting there for hours.

If all of this sounds too good to be true, be warned that there’s one major downside: the hours of operation. Upside Down Coffee is unfortunately only open from Tuesdays to Thursdays and from 9 am to 3 pm. If you’re in need of an early morning buzz, this is not your cup of tea, and the early closing time means you can’t rely on the shop for a late afternoon pick-me-up. That being said, if the opening and closing time is the biggest con, then Upside Down Coffee is still hands down one of the best coffee shops in West Los Angeles; it’s definitely one of the most affordable.
