Eli Lieberman has joined the middle school math department, substituting for Algebra and Geometry teacher Regan Galvan while she is on maternity leave. He began teaching on Nov. 7.
Prior to being at the Middle School, Lieberman taught at Fairfax High School and then at the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies. He also attended Fairfax High School where he said he struggled as a math student.
“I always struggled at math early on and there was that one teacher that kind of opened my eyes. So anytime I can help someone understand a concept that was confusing to them at first, I just feel really good about it, because I know how it feels,” Lieberman said.
Before he decided to be a teacher, Lieberman wanted to be a singer/songwriter. However, he took up teaching to support himself. Soon enough, he found that he loved teaching kids.
Outside of teaching, Lieberman said he enjoys exercising, seeing movies and travelling. He has also taught both Latin and Hip Hop dancing.
Over his years as a math teacher, Lieberman has taught mostly advanced high school courses. However he said he looks forward to teaching geometry again.
“I’m mostly a high school teacher, so I’ve done a lot of Calculus and Algebra 2 and Precalculus, but math at any level is fun, so I’m just looking forward to sharing,” Lieberman said.
Lieberman’s students seem to be enjoying their new teacher.
“Mr. Lieberman brings a warm nature to our class and he is always ready with a joke,” Michael Lehrhoff ’20 said.
