Harvard Westlake’s BLACC (Black Leadership Awareness and Cultural Club) is continuing its tradition of celebrating Black History Month with a fundraiser. For the third year in a row, the school has teamed up with Happy Ice, a popular Black-owned company, to raise money and awareness for causes that impact the Black community in Los Angeles. The proceeds from this year’s fundraiser are being donated to a very important cause.
“We are raising money for the victims of the Eaton fire since Altadena is one of Los Angeles’s historically Black communities that the fire has impacted,” said BLACC Learning Center Director and BLACC faculty sponsor, Jennifer Gabrail.
Students have been integral in making the event happen.
“Yes, our BLACC leaders and members helped spread the word about the fundraiser and sold Happy Ice on the day of the fundraiser,” Gabrail said.
One of the main reasons BLACC chose Happy Ice for the fundraiser is the connection to the community.
“Happy Ice is a Black-owned company that sells Philly water ice, which is always a hit with students,” Gabrail said. Every year, we sell out, and people love the happiness that the colorful cups and flavored ice bring.”
When it comes to BLACC’s impact at Harvard Westlake, it’s all about creating a space for connection. “BLACC is an amazing space within the Harvard-Westlake community that allows students to connect with each other and adults on campus.” Gabrails said.

This fundraiser not only supports a great cause but also showcases the power of student leadership and community spirit at Harvard Westlake.
