Members of the UNICEF Club held a bake sale on Feb. 2 to raise money for the organization. UNICEF helps struggling children worldwide and promotes the rights and well-being of children. It also reaches out to children in need of humanitarian aid in developing countries. UNICEF Club, which meets every Friday during break, works with this organization by hosting fundraisers such as this one. Members of the club and volunteers from HW Give sold doughnuts, cookies, cupcakes and other baked goods for $3 each in front of the ninth grade lounge. Students made an announcement during an assembly following the event where they announced that they had raised over $3,ooo.
Several students helped to organize the event, including Mimi Offor ’21, who explained the goal and successes of the fundraiser.
“[The goal was] $2,000 [and] we were surprised by the amount of students that purchased baked goods, and it was so great to sell out by ninth period,” Offor said.
Alexandra du Manoir ’21, one of the leaders of the event, discussed the fundraiser and how UNICEF Club can continue to help this organization.
“We are given focuses every month, and we will continue to brainstorm ways to raise extra money for the organization. The more, the better. Their work is really incredible. We also want to maybe bring a speaker in to inform the class more about UNICEF,” du Manoir said.
