The middle school campus was vacant from Dec. 15 through Jan. 2, as faculty and students were on winter break. Students spent the majority of time spending time with family, traveling, skiing and celebrating the holidays. In an online survey sent to the Middle School, 250 respondents spoke of what they enjoyed doing over the break.
“Over break I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, ice skating, drinking hot chocolate, chilling out and watching the movie ‘Polar Express’ on repeat,” Cameron Herring `21 said in the survey.
The majority of the survey respondents traveled over the break to visit family and friends or just for vacation. In addition, 80 percent of respondents celebrate Christmas and New Years.
“During the break, I like to go to Arizona to visit some of my family members that live out in that area. We typically talk, laugh and enjoy each other’s company indoors. When we decide to go out of the house, we drive up to the mountains in Arizona to the soft snow to sled. Christmas Break is always one of my favorite times of the year, especially when my Harvard-Westlake friends can join me,” Santiago Kelly `22 said in the survey.
Respondents said their favorite part of the holiday season is spending time with their families and enjoying the holiday spirit. Many students also said that they enjoy getting a break from the busy school year.
“I love the feeling of accomplishment after finishing a year. Especially after a very long week of tests, it just gives you more reasons to enjoy the time while it lasts and live every moment to its fullest,” Bronwen Rooss ’22 said in the survey.
