History teacher Lilas Lane is teaching 10th grade in addition to her ninth grade classes. She teaches the ninth grade history course, The World and Europe I, for the first three periods of the day and then drives to the Upper School to teach the 10th grade course, The World and Europe II during sixth period. The History Departme
nt asked Lane to teach 10th grade to ease the transition between The World and Europe I and II.
“We have a lack of information about what’s going on up there and vice versa, so I think this is an opportunity for us to learn about the different sides and share this information across all the grades to the benefit of the teachers and students,” Lane said.
Middle School History/Social Studies Department Head Matthew Cutler spoke more of the decision to have Lane teach at both campuses.
“Though [the Upper and Middle School history faculty] have met frequently, have never had a teacher teach at both campuses, so that makes it sometimes hard to understand the transition from a student’s point of view,” Cutler said.
Lane spoke of the effects this will have on her students.
“Negatively, I think that for the ninth more than the 10th not having access to me as easily as in the past, but I think the positive outweighs that in getting in insight into what expectations my students need meet next year for 10th grade, and for my 10th graders knowing what they experienced and learned last year,” Lane said.
