The Visual Arts department held its fall semester showcase, featuring student work in various mediums. The art was displayed throughout Wang Hall for visitors to observe, accompanied by a performance from the Middle School jazz program. Students and parents attended the event to support the artists, while others came to see their own work on display during break on February 13.
“You can tell there’s a lot of work in these pieces,” said Maddy Wynholds ’28. “They’re so detailed and take so much creativity—I’m happy they can be appreciated in this showcase.”
All of the student work featured was completed during the first semester of the school year under the guidance of the Visual Arts faculty.
“My students did this all in a semester—it’s an every-other-day class,” photography teacher Joe Medina said. “The themes of my students’ work in this show are obsessions, collections, and self-portraits. They’re inspired by visiting artist Awol Erizku.”
The showcase also exemplified support among the student body, with those in attendance gathering to lend their attention to the artwork created by their peers.
“I think it’s really important for schools to have a thriving art community. It helps balance them. It’s wonderful to see students cheering their classmates on in this space—it’s a quiet contrast from how you might see students cheering on their classmates on the field in sports,” said Visual Arts teacher Flavia Zuniga-West.
