The Asian American Culture Club (AACC) held its annual Lunar New Year potluck this year on January 27.
This year represents the Year of the Snake on the Chinese zodiac calendar, which is associated with wisdom, intuition, and a time for personal reflection and growth. The potluck was held in Bing 123, where parent affinity groups such as the Korean American Parent Association (KAPA) and Japanese-American Affinity Group (JAG) provided the food while AACC faculty and student leaders organized the event in time for the presentation.
“It was very successful. Our HW parent affinity groups were very generous for providing food for our Potluck,” said Academic Support Teacher and Faculty Advisor Peter Cha ‘15. “A lot of people came through and we got to gather in Bing 123 where people had the opportunity to taste Lunar New Year themed foods”.
Cha also expressed his surprise at the fact that leftovers were not abundant after the event had concluded, because they had stocked numerous amounts of meals in preparation for the potluck.
The potluck presented foods such as mochi, a popular Japanese desert, and japchae, the traditional Korean noodles. The foods represented the diversity of Asian culture and aimed to acknowledge the uniqueness of the Asian traditions.
“I thought this Potluck event was very meaningful. Not only was the food delicious, it helped me enhance my knowledge of Asian culture,” said Claire Lee ‘28. “I truly appreciate this opportunity to share to the whole school about Asian culture”.
