Student council hosted a variety of events during the week of Dec. 16 for Winter Week. The activities, which are held annually the week before winter break, included Buddy the Wolverine passing out candy canes, a scavenger hunt, cookie decorating during break, pajama day, a hot cocoa toppings bar, a sweet treats sale, and movies in Saperstein all day Friday.
Leading up to the week, senators spent time planning events and making decorations.
“We spent many meetings planning different events and brainstorming what would be the most fun for students. We also worked out different logistical elements, wrote assembly scripts, and made posters,” ninth grade senator Diya Desai ’28 said.
In addition to the events, there is a deeper purpose behind the break from usual school life. As winter break approaches, tests often increase as teachers prefer not to have ongoing units over a long break.
“The purpose of Winter Week is to provide a fun way to spread festivity and celebrate the holidays. It is a fun way to end the year and a good way to give students a break during a week that tends to be more academically heavy,” Desai said.
Desai said she was most excited for Friday’s festivities. “We will be selling sweet treats, including hot cocoa bombs and a free hot cocoa toppings bar! I am also excited to watch movies all day in Saperstein,” Desai said.
