Middle school students, swamped with exams, sports events, and winter plans during the holiday season, got a much-needed break on Dec. 11. The Mental Health Awareness Club (MHAC) and Student Council collaborated with Director of Student Affairs Sarah Tooke to organize a Mental Health Flex Day filled with activities aimed at promoting relaxation and well-being.
The day’s events included pickleball on the lower courts, therapy dogs by Munger, slime-making and cupcake decorating on the Commons, and a taco lunch. Stella Bae, co-leader of MHAC, described the event as a success. “We had a lot of great people helping, and the day was amazing,” she said.
Organizers of the event also polled students to find their favorite activity. Topping the list was the slime-making station, where students gathered around tables to create slimes using shaving cream, contact solution, glue, and various colors. Some students, like Gabriel de Castro and Pierce Moore, both ninth graders, crafted green and pink slimes in honor of the new movie Wicked.
“It was very fun and satisfying, and I loved being with my friends,” de Castro said.
The flex day provided a welcome respite for students. Whether relaxing at home or participating in activities at school, it was a day dedicated to rest, relaxation, and fun.
