Retreat week is always something Harvard-Westlake students look forward to. On Oct. 7, 2024, at 6 a.m., ninth graders headed off to the Colorado River.
This four-day journey along the California-Arizona border took place in the sweltering heat. Harvard-Westlake and Naturalist At Large took extra precautions to ensure the safety of all paddlers. With water stations at each camp and additional water transported in the canoes, everyone remained healthy and safe throughout the entirety of the trip.
Students were in and out of their canoes during the day-long journey to help alleviate the heat.
Gael Thomas ’28 said, “The Naturalists set up camps near trees to provide shade for us. They also provided water stations with multiple jugs of water to keep us hydrated.”
Fruit was served at every meal to provide the students with an extra source of water and nutrients.
Harvard-Westlake and Naturalist At Large executed the retreat in a way that ensured everyone had a great time.
