California plays host to honored guests visiting from China, a pair of giant pandas. These pandas are the latest in a conservation collaboration taking place between the U.S. and China to ensure a better future for all animal inhabitants. The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance has signed on to provide accommodations for the panda celebrities who will be arriving by the end of summer 2024.
“We are humbled by the potential opportunity of continuing our collaborative conservation efforts to secure the future for giant pandas,” said Dr. Megan Owen, vice president of Conservation Science.
The State hopes this collaboration will be the foundation for future partnerships regarding conservation and the environment.
“California and China share deep cultural and economic ties, and we look forward to the opportunity to again welcome these iconic bears to the Golden State,” said Governor Gavin Newsom in a recent press release.
The governor has worked on collaboration efforts since his weeklong visit to China last October.
“From securing a safe future for this national treasure to fighting climate change, we’re proud to continue our long history of working together towards shared goals,” Newsom said.
The San Diego Zoo is located in Balboa Park, minutes from downtown San Diego. and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. most days.
