Math teacher Regan Galvan and her husband David welcomed their son Luke Polaris Galvan into the world on Nov. 13 at 11:49 p.m. Luke weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces and was 19.5 inches long at birth.
The decision to name their son Luke was ultimately made by Galvan’s husband, and Galvan said that she speculates his choice was influenced by his love for the “Star Wars” series. Luke’s middle name, Polaris, is also the name of the North Star. Galvan said that his middle name goes along with the names of her two other children, William Orion and Penelope Luna. According to Galvan, the reason for the space theme among her children’s middle names is because her husband is a space physicist.
Galvan said that she, her husband and their children are all treasuring the time they get to spend with Luke while he is still a newborn. According to Galvan, William and Penelope are adjusting very well to having an infant in the house.
“Penny likes to push the stroller and William likes to sing him songs,” Galvan said in an email.
Galvan said that she thinks there is never enough time to spend with one’s baby, but for now, she is just trying to be in the moment, despite the difficulties an infant can often present.
“There is nothing better than cuddling with your newborn baby. They require a lot of attention and make it difficult to sleep, but this is a special time to be savored,” Galvan said.
Galvan also said that although these weeks with Luke are truly special, she’s excited to return to school in the spring and see her students again. In the meantime, Eli Lieberman will be covering Galvan’s classes until she returns from maternity leave.
“I miss my students already and really enjoy my job. I will be happy to return in the spring, though I will be surviving on caffeine and determination,” Galvan said.
