Ariana Grande recently released a music video for her hit single, “Thank U, Next.” Grande hyped up the music video for her new song prior to its release with photos posted on her Instagram that included various celebrities. Grande was teasing the video for weeks leading up to the video‘s release, beginning right after she released the song itself on Nov. 3. The song debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes Worldwide Song Chart and US Apple Music, becoming the first pop song to do so in 2018.
Ariana Grande recently released the music video on Nov 3, just half an hour before a new episode of Saturday Night Live aired. This is significant because the song is about her ex–boyfriends and what they taught her. Her recently ex–fiance Pete Davidson is a comedian on the show. The song reached 1 million likes on YouTube in less than 35 minutes of its release, breaking Taylor Swift’s record of 12 hours with “Look What You Made Me Do” received in 2017. The video also broke the record for most-watched video within 24 hours, officially gaining over 55 million views on YouTube in its first day.
The whole video was inspired by some of Grande’s favorite Rom Coms. This includes Mean Girls, Bring It On, Thirteen Going Thirty and Legally Blonde.
The music video is full of easter eggs alluding to her past relationships and future albums and songs and has recently broken many records in the music industry. For example, the license plate on her car in the Legally Blonde portion of the video has been rumored to be the title of a song on an upcoming album. “Thank U, Next” was No. 1 on the billboard for weeks and has recently reclaimed its title, and it is the biggest streaming week ever for a woman.
Grande’s power and growth from her past relationships has shown maturity on her part, and she put out an extremely well–orchestrated music video for all of her fans and more to enjoy forever. The “Thank U, Next” music video currently has 158,830,450 views, and views are still climbing as of the time of writing this. The video had been anticipated and fans have been eager to watch the video as soon as the song debuted, so the video’s popularity does not come as a surprise. She has left hints in her past videos as well as this one and we all can’t wait to listen to her upcoming album and future music videos.
