Twenty students from both campuses traveled to Tijuana, Mexico from Jan. 11 to Jan. 15 for the program, Crossing Borders: A digital Storytelling Adventure. Three middle school students, Penelope Juarez’21, Olivia Phelan ’21, and Echo Seireeni ’21, participated in the trip. The goal of the trip was to create a video documentary about border issues.
The students left campus on Jan. 11 at 3 p.m. and returned Monday night. The students were able to meet deported veterans and mothers, and they also visited an organization which provided male immigrants with job opportunities and other resources. The students filmed short documentaries detailing the lives of immigrants and the struggles they go through.
“The trip was very powerful. It really helped me open my eyes to what happens [to immigrants] and really puts faces to the names of the [immigrants] you hear about in news, and I  had a great time,” Juarez said.
