Chinese language students participate in CLASS essay contest

By Eugean Choi ’21
All 10 students who participated in the 2017 CLASS essay contest placed. The students, enrolled in Chinese II and III classes, wrote on “The Joy of Learning Chinese,” earning gold, silver and honorable mentions. Each contestant was given two weeks to write about why they enjoy taking Chinese. Though it was difficult, many of the participants agree that it was a very exciting experience.
“Sometimes I was kind of frustrated because I couldn’t think of anything, but at other times I kind of enjoyed it,” gold medalist Tyler Weigand ’21 said.
Chinese teacher Kun Li sponsored the 10 students to participate in the competition.
“Most of the essays were totally composed by themselves, my job is to give them the topic and explain the rubrics. I worked with them individually and brainstorm some ideas with them. I feel like they are really motivated and liked participating in this essay,” says Li.
