PhotoGraphics students visited Melrose Avenue on Oct. 30 and took photos for their class books.
The students are working on a sense of place project in which they choose a subject or place and compile a collection of photographs that will be used to publish a personal book for each student.
“I wanted them to have the experience of photographing a place outside of school because that leads up to our [current] project, which is called Sense of Place,” photography teacher Joe Medina said.
Students went to Melrose Avenue and photographed the shops and people there over the course of second through eighth period. Each student was given a camera beforehand to use for the trip and once they arrived. Participants broke off into groups of two or three to take photos and interview people. As they walked around, tudents were given a boundary for how far down the street they were allowed to go.
According to Medina, the trip was a way for students to prepare for upcoming projects and be comfortable with taking photos of a specific place as well as the elements of that place.
“I liked it a lot… It was really good and it helped us open our minds to the different locations and people, and helped us get ready for the big project,” attendee Ryan Prybil ’21 said.
