Boys basketball is made up of five teams: varsity, JV, freshman, black and red. Members of the boys basketball program say that they have started off with a good season.
The varsity team has an overall record of 16 – 2 and a league record of 4 – 0. Their most recent game was at Crespi High School on Jan. 17, results that are not confirmed. They have gone out with a promising start with 13 wins. They are ranked top 10 in the state.
“I think the varsity has done very well. We continue to get better and better with every game we play. It’s a great group of guys who really are playing for one another. They continue to get better and mature. It’s extremely exciting!” Head Coach Rebibo said.
JV is maintaining an overall record of 8 – 10 and a league record of 0 – 4. They had a league game at Crespi High School, on Jan. 17, with records yet to come. The main goal of JV players is to better themselves in order to be on the varsity team next year.
“My future goal in basketball is to play varsity next year,” wing Evan Roderick ’21 said.
The freshman team consists of 15 players and currently has an overall record of 8 – 9 and a league record of 3 – 1. Their most recent league game was at Crespi High School on Jan. 17, where they won 45 – 43.
Seeing how they practice six days a week, it must be hard to keep up with the rigorous pace of our school. Players on the basketball team need to maintain school work and their practices, and because games for league are almost every week, members agreed that it was hard.
“You have to use your frees wisely, get your homework done, not procrastinate and you’ll be fine,” forward Charlie Wang ’21 said.
The eighth grade squad, or the black team, consists of 11 members who currently have an overall record of 2 – 3 and a league record of 2 – 3. Their most recent game was at Chaminade School on Jan. 11, and they won 59 – 46.
“The 8th graders are having a very solid year! They continue to get better and grow with every game. I look forward to their continued development and growth, ” Rebibo said.
The seventh grade squad, also known as the red team, has 15 players who have an overall record of 1 – 4 and a league record of 1 – 4. They had a game at Chaminade school on Jan. 11 and won, 38 – 27.
“Playing basketball is really fun, and I hope to play harder so I can be in varsity,” point guard Terence Matthews ’23 said.
Many team members say that being on a team requires a lot of teamwork in order to function as a machine and that without team members having each other’s backs, the team would fall apart.
“The teamwork is pretty good; we’re a pretty tight knit group. Everything is for each other,” guard Marshall Howe ’21 said.
