Members of HW Give Global and HW Give Local selected

By Kaki Joiner ’21

This year’s HW Give members have been divided into two groups, global and local. HW Give Global deals with larger scale issues individuals face around the world, such as the recent fundraiser for hurricane disaster relief and the annual upcoming fundraiser helping girls with equal rights and fair representation. The HW Give Local group is focused on tangible activities such as canned food drives and the toy drive before winter break.

The most important responsibility of a committee member is to promote HW Give events. This means that they must help their peers run and organize events, as well as give each incoming application serious consideration and decide which event ideas would best support the school. Once a charity event has been approved by the HW Give program, committee members work alongside the founder of the event to help advertise and run the fundraisers.

Director of Student Affairs Keith Jordan spoke of what makes the HW Give program so important.

“Our students get to express how caring they are and how they are fundamentally aware about the hardships of people around them. It’s not easy to try to make a difference and organize others to make a difference. It gives young people a chance to help and motivate others to help,” Jordan said.

Martin Kriksciun ‘21, a member of the HW Give Local group, said he is excited to be a part of the Local portion of HW Give.

“I decided to apply for the local group because I thought it was more important to get back to the LA community that I am a part of,” Kriksciun said.
