Teacher shadow days to begin soon

Teachers will have the option to shadow students as part of a new program started by Head of Middle School Jon Wimbish. He had the idea for this program early last school year.

According to Wimbish, teachers have the option to follow students just throughout the school day or past school hours. The program is set to launch the program later this month.

“We’re trying to build empathy. We’re trying to get teachers to get the full of the day, the expectations, and the energy required to complete the day for the student,” Wimbish said.

Teachers will be paired with students according to their schedules and interests. Around 65 students and 15-20 teachers have volunteered so far.

“I think [the program] is a great opportunity for teachers to get a first hand glimpse of the…different aspects of a student’s life. It reminds us that there is so much more than what we see in the classroom,” English teacher Damaris Saenz said.

Students have also weighed in about the program.

“I think [the program] is pretty cool because the teachers can experience how stressful the day is and how it is to get from class to class,” Mary Oxyzolou ‘21 said.
