    Joshua Glazer ’06 gives presentation

    by Ryan Kim ’19
Joshua Glazer ‘06 gave a presentation about the mechanics and process of game design for mobile devices on December 11. Glazer is the CTO of Naked Sky Entertainment, a small game software production studio based in Los Angeles. His company has produced two mobile phone games, both being featured on the Apple App Store homepage. During activities period last month, Glazer gave a presentation about his latest game, “Scrap Force”, and answered questions about game design and the process of game production.
“I liked inviting Josh Glazer because many students are curious about game development, and he is incredibly inspiring and knowledgeable.” says programming teacher Ms Kaufman.
He described the plot of the game and handed out a free code to students in attendance, good for several hundred coins in Scrap Force, that was specifically tailored for the presentation.
Those attendance included Ms. Kaufman and several aspiring game designers, including some of Ms. Kaufman’s students.
“It was interesting for me to meet someone who went to this school and pursued programming as a career.” says Charlie Meenaghan ‘19.
Glazer also talked about everything from the technical side of game development to the marketing aspect of the mobile game industry.  Glazer answered questions covering everything from how to deal with cheaters in games, the pros and cons of mobile game development versus console games, and how a mobile gaming company can make money.
“[My favorite aspect of gaming is] definitely the process of developing of new games and seeing them take off or not after release. I remember designing the code for a small game called “League of Legends”. And then a couple years later, I attended the International championships for “League of Legends”, where players competed for a pot of over 1 million dollars.” Glazer said.
